MY PCOS Journey Part 2: What I did do to control my PCOS

When you have PCOS.. you are more susceptible to more diseases. The moment I learned about my PCOS I immediately changed my lifestyle. I know that it might be too late now.. But I still wanted to try and check if I can at least undo it...(crazy thinking I know...)

I do not eat fish unless it's cream dory. I started eating fish after my PCOS diagnosis. I want to complete the nutrients that my body need. No use being picky now. I wanted to cure my acne so bad. I immediately tried taking BCP( Diane 35). It was a very long wait. I need to be patient. I think it was about the fourth month of taking it when I saw some results. My skin was less oily and my acne was more or else gone. I don't think BCP's the only thing that helped me. I started chewing my food slowly and trying to be stress-free. I started creating fruit smoothies and eating more meat. YES MORE MEAT. FISH MEAT. I rarely eat pork meat too. I like green and leafy vegetables more. I also refrain from anything processed and anything frozen. Have I mentioned my allergy to chicken too? I also stopped eating my favorite food, chicken, so that I can avoid having facial rashes and possible acne.

My food plan was like this:

>Eat brown rice during the morning and whole wheat bread during the afternoon and light food during the evening.
>Eat as much fruit and leafy vegetables.
>Eat fish meat thrice a week.
>Eat pork meat twice a week.
>Never or at least try not to eat anything sweet unless it's fruit. ( Bye bye to my favorite chocolate :( )

My sleeping habit is still the same. I still sleep late at night but I try my best to sleep by 10 pm. Your body needs to rest by this time.

I also started taking vitamins. I have capsules for B complex, fish oil too ( I stopped taking it for awhile though), Vitamin D, Vitamin E and Vitamin C.

I learned that I brought this to myself. I was not careful of my body and it wanted revenge. I will make sure not to do the same mistakes again. Take care of your body. You only have one. Don't take it for granted.

Fashion 21 SPF 50 + Loose Powder and All Day Bronze Matte Lipstick

Lately the weather in the Philippines is becoming a big problem for me. Wearing makeup is no easy duty when it is scorching hot. I tend to pile up more foundation and retouch every minute. It might be my own fault too since I don't use any setting or final powder.

So a few days ago, I decided to buy a loose powder to lock my makeup. I was torned between buying Nichido Final powder and Fashion 21 Loose Powder. A lot of beauty bloggers have also mentioned the Nichido Final Powder. I really wanted to buy it but there are some things I weighed before deciding.

Compared to Nichido, Fashion 21 has SPF50+ content and also I like how light it feels. The price is a little bit higher than Nichido. Nichido's powder is only 150 php (3.25 USD) while Fashion 21's is 185 php (4 USD).

I'm really surprised that F21's loose powder will have this much product inside the tub. I feel that I can use this for the whole year. I got mine in shade #1 which is their only powder with yellow undertones. I can compare this shade with the very expensive Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder 692 php (15 USD) . Same quality but a much cheaper alternative.

The only downside to this is that I got a shade which is darker than my skin tone. Whenever I use this on top of my ELF Studio Flawless Finish Foundation, It really over powers the light shade of my foundation. It looks really off on my face. The staying power is good though so instead of throwing it away. I still use it with my Maybelline BB stick foundation (which is in a really light shade) or use it as a bronzer! #BeautyTipidTips

PROS:
- cheap compared to high-end brands
- local product #supportPhilippines
- very powdered and fine
- smell is not off-putting
- staying powder is really good
- matte finish
- fragrance-free

CONS:
- the shade I got was really dark compared to my natural skintone
- not talc-free

You might have already seen my other post about Fashion 21 All Day Russet Matte Lipstick review( If not, please click the link) I will give you another review but with another shade which is All Day Bronze. The color is much lighter compared to All Day Russet. It is a cheap dupe for NYX Whipped Caviar and Mac Faux/Brave.

Pros:
- nude shade yet not washed look
- velvety matte finish compared to Russet
- highly-pigmented
- staying power is good but not as good as Russet

Cons:
- none <3

Thanks Fashion21 for creating high quality cosmetics with reasonable prices :*

My PCOS Journey Part 1 : What is PCOS?

As I have already mentioned on my other posts, I have some skin issues. Despite my good hygiene, I still developed an oily skin and acne. During all these years, I didn't know I had PCOS. So what exactly is PCOS?

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or more commonly known as PCOS is a very common problem for women of different age. Some women might not know about it but it is the culprit to different "woman" problems.

PCOS is a problem where your hormones are not properly produced or are out of balance. This can lead to different problems such as:

- Acne
- Oily Skin
- Irregular Periods
- Weight Gain
- Excessive Hair Growth on face, legs and/or arms
- Heart Diseases
- Thyroidism
- Diabetes

and more....

Why exactly happen to our body when we have PCOS?

Let me keep it short and simple.
Normal Person:
Inside the Ovary:
-Eggs are produced inside the ovary
-The ovary has follicles which builds up fluid as the egg grows
-The follicle will break open and release the matured eggs
- The eggs are fertilized inside the fallopian tubes
- Ovulation then occurs

Women with PCOS:
-Eggs are produced inside the ovary
-The ovary has follicles which builds up fluid as the egg grows
-The follicle will break open BUT DOES NOT RELEASE ANY EGGS.

Therefore no ovulation will happen and thus no progesterones are made WHICH can result to irregular periods AND creation of male hormones.

I was a first year college student when my acne started to flare up. I didn't know what to do since my skin was originally smooth, flawless and fair. My mom told me that I might just be a late-bloomer and this is just the typical teenage acne but I know something's wrong. My acne worsen from late 2012 until 2015. My face was full of pus and scars. No matter how many times I wash my face, my skin is still oily. I wanted to do something so I bought different types of products and went to different derm clinics. Everyone of them told me to buy these certain products and I should be careful of my sleeping pattern, drink lots of water and be mindful of what I eat. I have a very hearty appetite but I never gained much weight. I do sleep late but I make sure to make up for it. Nothing really helped me instead it made me susceptible to any product hoax.

A close friend of mine told me that she has PCOS and that she took BCP (Birth Control Pill) to control her acne. That's when I started to research about PCOS.

Like what I mentioned, I don't have any problems with my weight. I do dance a lot and try my best to do exercises. My only symptoms are acne, oily skin and heavy irregular periods( cramps, mood swings and depression).

Somehow, I felt that PCOS might be the cause of my acne. I forced my mom to bring me to an OB/GYN. My doctor told me to have an ultrasound and there it is.... I was diagnosed with PCOS. Although, to be honest, I still don't know the cause of my PCOS until now.

I read online that taking BCP can help me clear out my skin. I suggested it to my doctor and she told me to use it. She said the BCP has really solved a lot of skin problems and it is also a good way to control PCOS.

I'm still taking BCP ( Diane 35) for 7 months until now. So far, I am really very happy to see some good results. Maybe after 2 months, I will stop taking it and start with taking Vitex and Estroblock or Saw Palmetto. Some of you might say... "Why stop it? If you have good results?" I will tell you the reasons on my next post: Why I want to stop taking Birth Control Pills. I will also post my PCOS status next time.

Please don't hesitate when you feel something is wrong. Immediately go to the doctor and ask for help. You might save yourself some time and tears. :)

Menow Pro Powdery Matte Kissproof Lipstick

Are you....

looking for a lipstick with super matte finish?
looking for a pigmented lipstick?
looking for a lipstick which is transfer-proof?

If you said yes for these three questions....This is the lipstick for you!
Presenting Menow KissProof Lippie shade no. 17 ! This shade is on point nude. No orange or pink undertones just purely light brown.

I might sound like an infomercial lady but believe me when I tell you... this lipstick is a gift from heaven!

Have you ever tried to powder your lips just to have a matte finish and to make it last longer? That is what I usually do before bumping into menow lippie.

First of all, I do eat a lot. Every minute I always crave for food! My mom kept on telling me not to use lipsticks anymore because I tend to lick or "eat" it ( which is dangerous because of the chemical content etc.)

Second, I have a very oily face so I try to stay away from shiny makeups. I have some matte lippies with me but either they fade or they don't stay matte throughout the day.

Lastly, I am a cheapskate. If there is a dupe, I'll go buy it. If there is none, nevermind.

Ever since I used this product. I was able to do lots of things with one swipe. I can use it 24/7 without fading. The pigment is really good and it is really matte which is a plus!

PROS:
- highly pigmented
- super matte
- cheap product for such quality

CONS:
- it will suck the life out of your lips so moisturize before using ladies!
- can crack your lips a little so pls exfoliate and moisturize

First Application: 12:51 pm I'm still at home! Just did my makeup!

3:55PM that same day We went to see the Venice Piazza at Mckinley

7:35 PM that same day Craving for pasta here @ Niu by Vikings at SM Aura Premier

I bought this for 200 php (4.34 USD) from Authentic Makeup Online Shop but they also have a physical shop in Fairview Terraces.

Nivea Sale 2016

So....

Yesterday, my mom and I went to SM Fairview to buy our groceries. We weren't able to go shopping for the last few days because we had so many errands to attend to. I'm still waiting for my salary for the first half of April's cutoff so ... yes .. I only have few money to spare. I really wanted to buy something new to feature to my blog. Thankfully, I found out about Nivea's sale.

A lot of people were mobbing around the Nivea products. I wasn't interested at first since ( like what I told you awhile ago) I don't have enough money to buy any "good" products. Knowing Nivea is a well-known brand and it is considered expensive, I didn't bother to look.

Finally, the curiosity cat jumped out of me. I decided to take a look and I'm so glad I did!
ALL NIVEA PRODUCTS ARE ON SALE UNTIL THE 17th OF THE MONTH! Also, everythings on 50% discount.

With little money, I decided to buy these 4 products:

Nivea Extra White Firming Body Serum
Nivea Men Anti-Acne Facial Foam
Nivea Extra White Repair Mud Foam
Nivea Sun Protect and White Whitening Sun Protection Cream SPF 50 PA++

I don't know If I did the right thing ( to buy these products just bc it's sale) but knowing Nivea... I am expecting to get what these products claim.

Maybe next week(?) I will post my review regarding all these products!  ( AND NO. I won't use the Nivea Men. My dad will be the one to review it for me)

Skin Care Haul 2015 Part 2: Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing Gel

If you are looking for the other products on this picture, check the link below:

I've been looking for a moisturizer since .. I dunno?.. forever? This was one of the first moisturizer I've ever used in my entire life which is a product from Nature Republic, a well-known Korean brand.

I have lots of skincare product and makeup which was bought from different Korean brands like Etude House, Tony Moly, Nature Republic etc. ( I even got some loyalty cards for some of them!!) I've tested their products and they are all definitely amazing!

First of all, the reason I bought this was I haven't bought any Nature Republic products before and I wanted to try one. My expectation for this product is not that high. I mean.. It's just a gel right? That is where I'm totally wrong. This is not a gel but a miracle gel!!

We all know that aloe vera has a lot of benefits.
  • Moisturizes skin
  • Prevents sign of skin-aging
  • Reduces acne and blemishes
  • Soothes skin with insect bites etc.
  • Promotes hair growth and many more
You can check this website for other uses of Aloe Vera.

I tried this gel on my face, body and hair. For my hair, I apply a generous amount and massage it through my scalp. For my body, I massage this to my elbows, ankles and knees. For my face, I use this as a mask by putting on a generous amount on my face and leaves it on for about 10 minutes. Ever since I've tried this product, it made my skin feeling so soft and smooth and my hair so silky and soft too. I can say that this is better than some of the lotions out there.

*Pros*
- Did I say that this is very affordable too? It is only php250 ($5.22)! I bought this last year but until now I haven't even gone half through it!
- Large tub and it's full too!
- Definitely a miracle gel for your face, body and skin
- Did I mention that it feels really cool to the skin? You can definitely put under your eyes to soothe those dark and mean circles.
- Paraben-free
- No artificial colors
- 92% Aloe Vera

*Cons*
- FRAGRANCE. :(
- unhygienic tub since there is no spatula included :(  (Tip: Use a short plastic spoon )

Skin Care 2015 Haul: Part 1 Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser For All Skin Types

I know, I know.... This is a very late review for these products! I've bought this last year 2015 but I haven't got the chance to review them right away :( Luckily, I have lots of time today so why not review it now!!! :)

Note: This whole post will be for Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser.
If you want to check the other products, You can click on the links below.

Last year , like what I told you on my skin care routine page, I had suffered from cystic acne. I tried almost all products including different kinds of derm procedures but unfortunately, none of them seem to work or seem to last. Finally, I decided to try the one product that is always seen and always been the cult favorite, Cetaphil.

First of all, let us have some background check a.k.a research about Cetaphil.
"They clean without stripping. Moisturize without clogging..." Ohhh sweet promises.. but do they live by they tagline?

This was what I was using before Celeteque Hydration Facial Wash. I really loved Cetaphil! It gave my skin that moisturized look and also cleaned my face thoroughly. Some people might say that it leaves some kind of thin film. Well, in my opinion, it is true. Based on my observation, it does live some sort of film but I think it is not that harmful since it made my face feel real smooth and moisturized. If you are asking why I'm not using it anymore( I mean I'm still using it but not as a cleanser)... well.... it's because of the price and availability. A lot of store are selling Cetaphil products but what I'm actually looking for was the Cetaphil for oily skin cleanser which is always out-of-stock. Aside from that, one big bottle was php760 ($15.83). If I have the budget, I will definitely buy one again. I used up two bottles already though I still have one left which I use as a make-up remover ( and I think it will last for a long time since I don't usually wear make-up).

*Pros*
- no fragrance( all skin types)
- soap-free
- non-comedogenic
- hydrating
- works according to it's tagline
- make-up remover!

*Cons*
- expensive
- availability of the oily skin cleanser
- it has some paraben :(

Makeup Haul! Catrice Camouflage Cream & Fashion 21 All day Matte Russet

Meet my new BFFs.

It's been a very very very long time since I've bought some make-ups... AND this is by far the best among the rest!

Meet Catrice Camouflage Cream. This is a new brand for me. It's a new brand from Germany same as the owner of Essence. I was so afraid to try it at first because my skin is very sensitive and I'm afraid to have breakouts. I bought this from Watson's SM North Edsa for 200php( $4.18). They are actually on sale so I said why not try it? I'm supposed to buy the Maybelline satin dream liquid foundation or Maybelline Dream Mousse but they were out of stock during that time. I'm planning to buy some make-ups to buy for my upcoming Singapore trip so I can't buy anything more than 100ml or anything in glass container .Thankfully, the sales lady told me that Catrice is on sale and their products are really good since they are all in friendly sizes and containers. I'm asking for a foundation so she told me that this one has good coverage so I immediately bought it not knowing THAT THIS IS NOT A FOUNDATION BUT ACTUALLY A CONCEALER! I was so disappointed BUT not anymore.... because.... of all my foundation/concealer... this.. yes THIS.. This is the only thing that can cover my blemishes without breaking me out or making my look so cakey or making my oily face extra oily. Thank God for this product. I swear by this concealer ( which I use also as my cream foundation).
Look at how it covered my blemishes with one application. (Sorry for my stray hairs!) No setting powder etc.

If you want to invest in a good and affordable concealer, this is perfect for you! I will definitely choose this than MAC Studio Finish Concealer.

*Pros*
- very affordable
- great coverage ( it is indeed a CAMOUFLAGE cream)
- easy to use)
- very easy to blend (especially if you have a beauty blender)
- no breakouts
- one application can go a long way
-no spf unlike MAC Studio Finish Concealer

*Cons*
- too heavy
- unhygienic pot container
- few shades
- white cast under bright light

My other new fun find was a lippie from a local brand. This was from Fashion 21 which was the brand partner of FS Cosmetics made by the famous stylist, Fanny Serrano!

I never knew that I can find a very matte and very pigmented lippie from a local brand. I used to think that MAC and NYX are the best brand for these characteristics.

This Fashion 21 lipstick is in Russet Shade. A combination of MAC Diva/Diva Antics Lippie and MAC Russian Red and a lot darker than NYX mauve lip liner. All these products are unique therefore I really cannot compare.

*Pros*
- locally made! Support PH products!
- very affordable 175php($3.67) available at any dept. store locally
- very matte
- very pigmented
- no scent whatsoever
- lots of shades
- long wear

*Cons*
- drying! so please exfoliate and moisturize your lips before using this!

Starbucks 2016 Moleskine Edition Daily Planner

To be honest, I already got my( no, not mine, I actually gave it to my mom teehee ;) ) Starbucks planner last year 2015. After months of drinking coffee and not being able to sleep properly, I was happy to receive this Moleskine edition. I still have one more sticker set but I was not able to complete it. As usual, their planner is perfect. I especially loved the custom images per month(is that per month? not sure).

I noticed that I spent lots of my money for this. Is it worth it? Well, it was. My mom was so happy to receive this for Christmas. She really loves to write her recipes, her grocery list and many more to this planner.

Next year, I'm planning to try out the CBTL and Seattle's planner.

Well then, SORRY FOR THE VERY LATE POST!

xoxo,

Celeteque Hydration Alcohol-Free Toner

I want to be honest. I am not a fan of toner. Actually, I've just started using it because of my recent breakouts. I've tried about 4 toner brands (which I will post next time). My mom used to say that using toners will clean out the dirt left even after washing my face with cleansers. Well, what she was saying was true but there is only one thing I'm concerned of. That is Alcohol.

Nowadays, alcohol is used as the main ingredient of toners/astringent. We all know that alcohol got some antibacterial properties, right? The problem with this is that alcohol is too harsh for our skin especially for our face which is very thin compared to the other parts of our body. It does remove acne-causing bacteria on our face but in return, we will need to face dryness and irritation. The damage brought by alcohol is much greater compared to its gains. It will do too much damage that it will invite more acne-causing bacteria!

Okay. I guess you got my point.

Meet Celeteque Hydration Alcohol-Free Toner.

A toner that will clean your skin impurities without drying out and causing irritation to your skin (or acne). This includes witch hazel extract which is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. I use it about two to three times a day (whenever needed). It feels very warm and light on my skin. I will definitely buy this again!

*Pros*
- Alcohol-Free
- No color
- Smells great
- Light
- Budget Friendly
- Hydrating

*Cons*
- Nothing

Thank you very much for reading! Don’t forget to like, tweet or share :*
